Q: How to set the cams

asked by on

I need to find out how to set the cams on a 3.4

My car has 88000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The setup for the cam gears and timing belt is a very detailed process. Some gear types require a shim kit to apply the right fit clearance between cam gear and camshaft. This particular motor also requires special tools to properly line up the camshafts for a timing belt change. You can either rent the tool at a local auto parts store, or have the work done by a professional technician who already has the correct tools.
