Q: How to release tension to change alternator

Where is the tension release for 1992 Buick skylark

Hello. I believe the tension release for that particular vehicle is a pulley located just beneath, and to the right of the alternator. The pulley will either have an adjusting mechanism or should have a port for a 3/4 drive ratchet to fit so that tension can be released. If that is not the case, then it is also possible that the alternator has an adjusting mechanism built into the bracket. If you are still having problems changing the alternator out, a technician from YourMechanic can come to your car’s location to replace or install the alternator for you.
