Q: How do you correctly install a child car seat in the front?

How do you correctly install a child car seat in the front?

First and foremost, never put your child in the front passenger seat of your Altima unless there is no other option. Children under the age of 13 should be in the back for the best safety. However, if you absolutely must install a child seat in the front, here’s how:

  1. Make sure the seat is front facing. Under no circumstances should you ever put a rear facing car seat in the front passenger seat.

  2. Move the passenger seat as far back as possible from the dash.

  3. Follow your car seat manufacturer’s directions on positioning.

  4. Route the belt through the seat following the manufacturer’s directions.

  5. Make sure the shoulder belt runs behind the seat, never across the front.

  6. Check that the seat is secure and stable.

Tip

  • The Air Bag Off light should come on in the dash to indicate that the air bag for the passenger front seat has been turned off.
