Q: Hi Peter, I've noticed that when my car shifts from first to second gear I hear a sound almost like metal grinding, it's not loud

asked by on March 06, 2017

I only noticed the sound recently, it only occurs when going from first to second and no other gears make the sound, if I gin it on accelerating from 0 it doesn't make the noise but when I slowly accelerate I can hear it and it bothers me. Thanks for the advice in advance!

My car has 72562 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

TCM causes engine light to come on, but no transmission problems - is it safe to drive it?
The first thing I would do is scan the vehicle for codes to determine if the TCM is still the issue. If codes for the TCM appear, depending on the code and the problem, you may be fine to drive...

Failure to crank, that is no starter motor operation, does not implicate the fuel pump circuit in any way. First, the battery should be load tested (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-is-dead-inspection) to determine if it is usable. Batteries can "appear" charged but actually be...
