Q: hi beams not working

asked by on

when i turn my hi beams on the low beams shut off

My car has 134981 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello, thank you for writing in. Your issue with the high beams is electrical. It is very unlikely for both bulbs to physically burn out at once. The first step is to check the fuses and relays for the system. These are located in the main fuse box, or under the dash board. After checking and or replacing the relay, if the situation still persists, then you need to turn your attention to the switch. The switch can be a little harder to swap out than a relay but can be done from home. If you have a voltmeter, or ohmmeter, electrical testing to trace the voltage can also be done. This would illuminate the guess work.
