Q: Having issues with my Impala's "PASSLOCK" SECURITY feature.

asked by on March 16, 2017

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Impala. Equipped with "Passlock" factory Theft Deterrent System. Anyway for the past couple weeks SOMETIMES I can try to start my car and it won't do anything. No crack or click or anything. Battery is good, changed the starter and checked fuses....etc. After researching via Google I've learned that year of the Impala is known for major issues with the factory Passlock system. Someone suggested using a passlock bypass module, is that possible? Or can this probably only be fixed by installing a NEW "KEY IGNITION?" PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My car has 180000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

No acceleration or RPM increase while pressing gas pedal
It sounds like you may have an issue with your throttle position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-throttle-position-sensor). This sensor sends a reference voltage to your power-train control module, which uses that to determine ignition timing and fuel trims. If the power-train control module...

This can be caused for a variety of reasons such as a malfunctioning thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/thermostat-replacement), a radiator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/radiator-replacement) not flowing properly, a faulty coolant temp sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-temperature-switch-sensor-replacement) or AC refrigerant not properly being supplied to the AC compressor. My car won't start - 2007 Nissan Xterra
