Q: Had an issue with the D flashing and car losing power, now the Catalytic Converter light is on - 2014 Volkswagon Jetta

Took my car for service in December 2016, one of my concern was the D flashing and the car losing power and was informed that the car needed a software update, two days after service it happened again and I took it back and again they ran some test but could not find anything wrong therefore software was updated again. the flashing of D persisted on the 22 the same happened. I switched off and on again but the catalyc converter light came on, I drove home the next morning it was off. This morning the light was on again, what does this mean and what damage is it going to cause. Please help
