Q: Gas tank leaks when filled up.

asked by on

My gas tank leaks when I fill it up.

Hello, A leaking gas tank should be addressed sooner than later, it is not only a hazard to yourself but also to the environment. Seeing that your car is an older model, it’s probably safe to assume it’s made of metal. The most likely cause of the leak would be the seal that is used on the fuel level sensor and or the seal for the fuel pump. My recommendation would be to drive the vehicle till it’s less than a quarter tank and then enlist the aid of a mechanic to help find the leak.
