Check engine light came on took the car to Ford. It was making loud noises when changing gears. Ford says it was 4 quarts low on oil but no oil light never came on, it is running a lot better now with oil but Ford says I need a new engine at $7500. How long can I drive before my engine dies? Check engine light never went off they couldn't tell me the damage thus far But ran a diagnostics. How much time do I have? It runs a lot smoother and no longer making the noise.

My car has 101000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

The problem is inside the transmission with pressures or shift solenoids and will need to have a transmission expert test and diagnose it to isolate the cause.
