Q: Fix it or trade it in?

asked by on September 19, 2017

I have a 2008 Acura TL 170,000 miles. She is due (past due they say ) for some serious maintenance . Such as timing belt and water pump, o2 sensor, transmission fluid change and something about an air hose is torn.
How much do these services usually cost and is it worth the investment to fix her or should I just trade her in for a newer car and invest my $ there.

My car has 172000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Nothing seems wrong and the motor is burning oil

Malfunctioning driver's side power seat.
The power seat switch may be bad and would have to be checked (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/power-seat-is-not-working-inspection) for sending power out to the power tilt and recline functions. If the switch is working correctly then the power seat motors would be checked and...

Engine light is on, Catalytic converter is bad. 2008 Jeep Wrangler
Hi - on your Jeep the catalytic converter(s) (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-a-catalytic-converter-last) - all 4 of them - are welded together as a single assembly, going from the engine manifolds, to the center muffler section. You don't indicate your mileage, so it's hard...
I currently have a 2008 BMW X3 3.0 si. It has the BMW business stereo in it. This morning I went to go leave for work and the stereo stopped working.
First check the fuse to the stereo and see if its burned. If the fuse is burned, replace the fuse and check the wiring on the radio and see if there is anything loose. If the fuse is good, then...
My car starts then shuts right off
The first thing to check for in a case like this is air leaks. Any air that gets into the engine without going through proper channels will lean out the system and cause problems like this. Look under the hood...
