Q: First the car engine light started blinking and the car stuttered while decelerating and accelerating. now won't past 40 mph

asked by on July 16, 2017

While driving on the express way, my car engine light started to blink and the car started to stutter or jolt while driving. Then the light went off and it continued to do that on and off the remainder of the trip. A couple days later the engine light stayed on and I noticed the jolting when accelerating and decelerating. Now the car won't go past 40 miles per hour. What could be the problem? And what is a good price to pay to get it fixed?

My car has 172000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
