Q: Clicking sound

asked by on December 12, 2017

I recently hit a dog and busted up my front bumper. It caused damage to the radiator, ac condensers or compressor(can’t think of it at the moment) totaling like $2,000 worth of work. Well my car was a great running car. After the mechanic had it for nearly a month. I went to pick it up and started it and it now make a clicking noise from inside the dash area. My car didn’t even make any noises at the wreck. So I went right back in and told the mechanic I was not taking the car until that noise was gone. He told me that that noise is common in Malibu’s and that it had nothing to do with their work. He said once the car gets age that’s what happens! My question is can that noise come from the work they did based off the work it needed? Or is it all a coincidence and I’m just the crazy person? It’s a 2009 Chevy Malibu

My car has 96000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Grinding noise when putting vehicle into gear, plus no acceleration.
Several things could be causing this issue including internal differential failure, axle failure, or transmission failure. The differential is unlikely since the vehicle will still accelerate to 25 mph. An axle however could have slid out of place due to...

How can I rule out a head gasket as a reason for my truck overheating?
You will need to do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if there is coolant leaking from the radiator or the head gasket (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-replace-a-head-gasket-by-jerel-lawrence). The other test is to do a compression test on all the cylinders...

ENGINE OVER HEATING
It sounds like you may have a defective thermostat (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/thermostat-replacement) if you haven't checked it yet. If it still overheats after fixing the thermostat then check the radiator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/radiator-replacement) next. Make sure the radiator flows in all of the fluid...

Most commonly when the car stalls while driving, but starts right up after, the cause is an intermittently failing crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor. The first step to diagnosing this problem however, would be to scan the engine...
Why does my heater only blow warm and not hot on my 2000 Dodge Stratus
Hello. It does take some time for the coolant to get hot enough to blow hot inside of the vehicle. I usually start by checking the coolant level. Low coolant will cause this. If the coolant level is fine then...
1996 F150 4.9 5 speed. Frt. Fuel pump quit working. Put fuel in rear tank and it sucked the fuel to the frt tank.
The two tanks are designed to work together and so BOTH pumps must be functioning and, as well, the related fuel system supply code, the Code P0232 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0232-obd-ii-trouble-code-fuel-pump-secondary-circuit-high-by-jay-safford) that has set has to be resolved. I hear a rattling noise in the back of my car.I was told I need rear struts not sure which parts
Hi there. I would strongly recommend having a professional mechanic accurately diagnose the issue you're having if you are going to have a private, non-Mercedes Benz certified mechanic complete these repairs. By having one of our mobile mechanics come to...
