Q: EVAP system problem. It shuts off at the pump as is typical with solenoid problems. Is it safe to put in some gas to move the car?
Hi! My car has been having EVAP issues for three weeks now. I took it to one mechanic who said I needed a new storage canister and wanted to charge me $1,700 for it. Obviously I am seeking another opinion, as it could just be the purge solenoid or a less significant leak (I'm hoping it's just my gas cap!).
However, my question at the moment is: is it safe for me to put enough gas in the tank to move my car to where it needs to go? I have the typical issue of the pump shutting off as soon as I put any gas in the tank. My gauge has been unreliable lately too, so although it says I have half a tank, I'm not sure that I do.
Any advice would be great! I just want to make sure I can get my car where it needs to go as safely as possible, without damaging it or myself.
