Q: crank shaft

I have a 2004 Infiniti G35. My Check Engine light is on. I took the vehicle to Auto Zone for a diagnosis. They told me it is the crank shaft. I purchased it and now am awaiting for someone to install it. However, I'm scared to death that something may be wrong with the tranny. All signs point to the crank shaft, as far as the vehicle dying, acting as if it's not shifting into gear and as well as it sounding as if there is a problem with the transmission. I know there may not be much you can convey to me other then what I have read. Please just know that I am terrified especially since I just purchased the vehicle from a family member and may now have a HUGE or minor problem.
