Q: Crank no start, just replaced fuel pump, relays, coils and plugs a year ago. Sounds like fuel pump clicks once. Battery is good

asked by on November 19, 2017

Was driving one day Truck randomly acted like it was out of gas, then it died and wouldn’t start again for a couple hours. After it started, it drove fine for a day, about 30 miles. Then it did it again, couple hours later it started up and drove fine for 2 weeks. Then did it again, took towed to mechanic and it started up for him every time. I drove it for a month and it died again 2 weeks ago. This time, it wouldn’t start no matter how long. Just replaced the fuel pump, filter and relays. I put 12 gallons of gas in, it wouldn’t start. But it started a couple hours later, drove for a full day fine. Then died again. So I put a new relay on it, it started fine. Then the idle got very quiet and it died, and I started again and it idled quiet and died after seconds. It stayed running while I had my foot on the gas. Every time I crank it now, the gas needle goes to the severe empty side, even tho it has half a tank. Still won’t start. Coils and plugs and battery are less than a year old.

My car has 70000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Why why does the check engine light come on but runs fine until it gets to 2500 RPMs then it stutters
Hi there. It is possible that you could have a bad camshaft (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/camshaft-position-sensor-replacement) or crankshaft position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement). These sensors keep track of the timing of the engine and send signals to the vehicles PCM. If one of these sensors...
