Q: coolant leak yesterday, shop tested today with 15lbs press no leak, no repair made, after leaving shop lukewarm heat. whats up?

asked by on March 10, 2017

Yesterday I smelled coolant and opened the hood to see coolant spraying out of the upper plenum/air filter area...kind of. I filled reservoir and drove the 25 miles home. I checked the coolant level and the reservoir was nearly empty when I got home. I refilled it for a second time and my husband left with the van for work. He drove 2 hours without adding fluid but when he got home it was at the same level as when I refilled it. No leaking. I scheduled am inspection for the next day. The tech pumped 15 lbs pressure through the system and found no leaks. not a single one. So I was told to come back if it started doing it again. Now today, I have lukewarm heat. No leaks but lukewarm heat. My heat is usually very very hot. whats going on?

My car has 213000 miles.
