Q: Coolant disappearing. 3 different shops.

asked by on January 09, 2017

I have gone through a gallon of coolant in the past month. Recently, I have had to refill it everyday for the past few days. I went to one shop and they said head gasket (but is showing no other signs of head gasket issue). Went to a second shop, they said that I need a new radiator and not the head gasket at all. They said they could visibly see the leak. Went to a 3rd shop and they said nothing is wrong with my car at all. They did a pressure test and it can withstand 20psi. I called the shop back that said it needs a new radiator and they said that because it is plastic, it will only leak when the car gets heated up and that it won't leak with a pressure test. I am so confused on what to believe and want to make sure the repair i will be dumping hundreds of dollars into is ACTUALLY the issue.

My car has 145000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Advice on using oil combinations and changing oil
Yes, I would use a higher-quality filter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-tell-if-an-oil-filter-is-good-quality) because if you do use a higher-quality filter with that synthetic oil, you can change your oil every 7,000 or 10,000 miles instead every 5,000 miles or 3,000 miles. I would use...

The engine has no power and shakes a lot
Hello. If the engine is shaking that bad and has no power, then it may have a bad misfire (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-can-problems-with-the-ignition-system-cause-misfiring_2).
