Q: Cold weather

asked by on

Car sits outside. Must be driven early am. Temps expected to be 10-15 below plus windchill. Would it be safe, not damaging, to leave car idle all night long?

My car has 113500 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Running your vehicle at idle for an extended period should not harm the engine but will waste a lot of fuel. The only problem may be if the engine runs low on oil, fuel or overheats for some reason and you are not there to turn it off and engine damage occurs. The last thing is your vehicle could get stolen.
