Q: Car won't start or crank

asked by on January 08, 2017

When I turn the ignition it doesn't crank or turn over but lights and radio come on fine with no dim, I've changed the startor solenoid cleaned battery terminals tried jumping the car I don't know how to get it started or why it won't start, there's no crank at all when turning key just clicks My car has 190000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission. There is no clicking like if the battery is dead. There is power going to the startor I checked it, when I tried using a flathead to bridge the startor to by pass it to turn over it sounded like a vacuum. Made a weird noise and didn't engage the flywheel or sound like it was going to start.

Car starts sometimes for a few seconds. Car ran completely out of gas. I changed the fuel filter, and change battery in the remote.

Hi There, Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle. This can happen for many different reasons such as a faulty mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement), a faulty O2 sensor...
