Q: Car won't start after battery was plugged in and whilst changing thermostat, something sparked and the car won't start.

asked by on March 30, 2018

My grandpa and I where changing the thermostat on my moms car. I don't remember for what he plugged back in the battery and forgot to take the terminals off and while I was working, the ratchet touched something and I saw sparks flying. After we finished putting everything back, the car wouldn't start. The lights turn on but it won't start and it'll make a like screeching noise when trying to start it. We changed the camshaft, crankshaft, and distributor cap(something like I can't remeber) cause my GP thought they were the culprits and made my mom waste money. Anything would be helpful at this moment. Ah and the ecu/ecm is not fried or anything.

My car has 150000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
