Q: Car won't shift out of Park

asked by on

I can't get my car out of Park.

Hi there. This is a issue that many 1995 Cutlass owners face. The gear shift being stuck is usually caused by one thing, the brake transmission interlock switch going bad. The switch is a stop switch made to prevent the transmission from being engaged in a gear before a driver is ready. A technician would use a multimeter to test the switch to verify if it is bad. I recommend having a mechanic inspect your shifting problem to determine what repairs are needed.
