Q: Car will not shift.

asked by on January 27, 2017

My car is making a whining noise when in motion. It will not shift and is running higher RPM. I asked my grandfather who happens to be a retired mechanic and he believes it is a solenoid. My check engine light was on and he told me to get it checked at advance auto. They said it was a coolant thermometer malfunction. Would that cause my car to not want to shift?

My car has 109000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
