Q: Car was low on gas and shutoff on way to gas station and once i took key out it continued to try to start until battery died

I was low on gas on way to gas station it shutoff and after i took key out the ignition it continued try start itself to battery died i called tripleA they came put gas in and tried to jump it but the cables got so hot within a min had to pull off throw in grass what could b the problem any info is greatly appreciated ty mike
