Q: Car Stalled as I quickly changed from brake to gas pedal when approaching a red light that turned green going downhill.

asked by on July 18, 2017

As I was braking downhill to a red light and I was nearly approaching a complete stop, the light turned green. I quickly changed from brake pedal to the gas pedal. The car did not accelerate instead it stalled. The steering felt heavy and had to pull to the side. The car did restart but with slow cranks. During the past few months I have noticed the car behaves weird when accelerating. I notice the car takes a while to accelerate. When taking off from a full stop and I want to accelerate it to 3000rpm the car reaches 2000rpm normally and stays there for about 2 seconds and then revs quickly to 3500rpms as if I would have pressed the gas pedal very hard. I do not know if this could be transmission or engine related. It does not have engine light on, but I think something is wrong because this is not the way it was accelerating before. Recently changed timing belt, replaced transmission fluid, replaced crankshaft sensor, the spark plugs are 17,000 miles old. What could be the issue?

My car has 177458 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
