Q: Car only drives in reverse now

asked by on

Car wasn't going into drive gear but would go in gear 1, 2, 3 and reverse. Now it only goes in reverse. Whats my problem

My car has 155000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi, thanks for writing in. Most likely, the "forward apply band" has failed in your transmission. This failure will affect all forward gears as you are experiencing. This should be diagnosed by a reputable transmission shop who can confirm this diagnosis, and provide an estimate of repair cost. Hope this helps and best of luck!
