Q: Car accelarating on its own, then engine temp goes almost to the top

asked by on January 25, 2017

One day I started my car, let my foot off the brake and the car started to accelerate on its own with out me touching the gas. The only way was to push the brake to stop. While in a complete stop, the rpm were still accelarating past two. When I put in in park same thing. I was in traffic so I had to keep braking often so the engine started to overhit. I was able to pullover and get the car towed. Thus only happened once. I'm afraid it will again. I also have a starting problem. Sometimes my car won't crank. It comes on fine, and acc light radio ectopic works. Battery only 6 months old. I had the starter and the crank shaft senser replaced. I'm thinking it might the the key hole in the car or may be the key itself. The key is not origial. Looks like a spare. My abs and security light are on as well. If that helps

My car has 101000 miles.
