Q: Cannot shift out of park

asked by on December 02, 2016

Hello. I can no longer shift out of park. I can release it using the manual release button. Then when in drive... I can only switch between drive and neutral before having to use the release button again to enter into reverse or park. The break lights seem to work. I have noticed a few hours before this suddenly happened... my car would feel as if I had my foot on the break pedal when applying pressure on the gas. It tricked me into thinking I was placing my foot on the brake a few times. It's not too noticeable when it happens. But, when you drive a lot it's easy to pick things up like that on your car.

My car has 77000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Car making humming noise when driving, but when I stop at the ref Light I don't hear the sound. Also when I go over 40mp get loud.

My 2004 Honda Civic is making too much noise. Why and how would I address the issue?
Hi there. Assuming the noise is a high-pitched squeal when the A/C is turned on (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/loud-squealing-or-rattling-is-coming-from-engine-inspection), it may be that the new belt has stretched and needs to be readjusted. The A/C compressor may also be failing (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ac-compressor-replacement), causing the...
Got new water pump less than 9 months ago. Now boiling sound and overheating smell. Temp says its good
