Just tonight my truck started acting up, it fish tails and swerves when I try to drive past 20mph and the brakes started to stutter and fail to work. It would come and go. The slippery dash symbol would come on when it goes 20mph and a trailer with 2 wheels comes on (yellow) it would run fine for a bit but start to act up again. Also here and there the lights would flicker and dim.
Hello, thank you for writing in. It would appear that the mechanics (engine slowing and braking issues) are being effected by the electronic sensors and modules that control them. When you have several systems failing at once, you want to look into the charging system and the PCM. Start with the more simple fixes on components that are more likely to fail, which means you need to test the alternator and the battery first to make sure they are properly providing the vehicle with electrical power. If the charging system checks out, then you need to look into the control modules. Most vehicles are equipped with a Powertrain Control Module which computes the air fuel mix, transmission controls, ABS and traction control inputs, and other miscellaneous functions. If this unit has failed, then you will have these and similar symptoms. For more help with testing, contact our service department to schedule an appointment.
