Q: Can pulling and jerking in a tire cause damage

Okay we took the car to the shop and a mechanic said we had a broken strut he jacked up the car and was pulling and jerking and yanking at the tire very hard very very hard i wanted to tell him to stop it looked like he was using all his strength to break something, I need to know now if yanking on the tire like that could caused any damage to the bearings ,lug boots etc. For my daughter drives 40 miles to work , I need to know to make sure she is safe . Thank you
