Q: can not remove the bolt and nut from the caliper to replace front breaks

asked by on

how to remove bolt and nut thanks

My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello, thank you for writing in. The bolt may be difficult to get the right tool into place, but with a swivel socket, or the right wrench, you should be able to get a firm hold on the bolt. If rust or some other kind of contamination is causing extra resistance, you will want to try some kind of brake cleaner. Typically this will release a lot of the dirt and debris build up. If this does not help, you will want to try a rust removing chemical to help break the bolt free. The bolts can be replaced if they are broken, but you should be able to remove them with the right tools. Remember that the longer the wrench, the more leverage you have and the easier it will be on you. Use a breaker bar if needed.
