Q: Can I take my front driveshift out and not use 4wd until I get the parts? There in only driving 2wd.

asked by on March 18, 2017

Going on the freeway I hit a bump. The truck then began to act as if I were going over a line of bumps, shaking bad, until I either slowed below 30mph or stopped. The u joint on the front passenger side is good, but the two items it connects have both lots of play and blown seals. Now, those things only come into play when I use 4wd, but I have no need for that function until next winter at the soonest. My question is, can I take the u joint and parts it engages for 4wd out, run on only 2wd, until I can replace the malfunctioning parts. Rear wheel drive, so I'm assuming taking away the ability to engage my front differential shouldn't cause an issue, but I would rather be safe and ask someone with more expertise on this.

1999 Pontiac Grand AM runs rough and smells weird
Hello. An engine running rough at idle could be a vacuum leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-a-vacuum-leak) creating the wrong fuel ratio for the engine to operate correctly. The smell is probably unburned fuel caused by the vacuum leak issue. The belt shredding could...
