Q: Brakes not performing well.

asked by on February 22, 2017

My brakes felt a little "grindy " so my husband fixed them, now I have to press down twice as hard to stop and it makes me nervous they feel so loose. He said it will take time for them to tighten back up. Is that a thing?

My car has 185000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

2012 chrysler 200 won't start after replacing alternator which was bad after testing.
Hi there. It sounds like something may have shorted during the alternator replacement. If the positive cable going to the alternator made contact with anything metal, then it may have blown the main fuse (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/signs-your-car-has-a-blown-fuse). If not, then the battery...

Thank you for your question. We can definitely help you. The oil pressure light comes on ONLY in park after getting oil changed. The car is full of oil.
This may very well be a faulty oil pressure sending unit. This is a sensor located down near the oil pan on your engine that monitors the oil pressure inside your motor. When this detects lower than normal oil pressure,...

Struts or Compression Rods Maybe??? 2005 infiniti G35
Hello - given your mileage, your front struts and strut bearing plates are most likely candidates for the suspension noises (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/suspension-up-front-makes-a-ton-of-noise-creaks) you describe. Colder weather will make turning noises louder (or "creakier"). Having a helper "rock" each side of the...
