Q: Am I able to ask to keep the amount of money the insurance is going to pay to fix my totaled car to fix myself?

asked by on March 03, 2017

I got into a car accident a couple weeks ago and now my car is considered a total loss. State Farm, my car insurance, said that to fix it, it would be about $10,000 minus the $1000 deductible to fix it. I wanna keep my car instead & have my dad try to repair it. But would my insurance company give me the $10,000 minus my $1000 deductible to fix it or it just doesn't work that way ?

My car has 160000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.
