Q: Air Filter Replacement

asked by on

In replacing my engine air filter, should I put some kind of grease around the filter itself? The air filter has a silicone or mushy pad around the entire filter.

My car has 126500 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The air filter does not require grease on it. The filter oil should be enough. Grease can actually degrade the material of the filter and may shorten the lifetime of the part. If you want to have the air filter replaced for you, a technician from YourMechanic can come to you to perform this service.
