Q: Transmission noise

asked by on April 06, 2017

So out of no where while driving I pushed on the gas and it started making a really loud zipping noise I guess is how I would explain it...not like the sound of a zipper on a jacket but like umm....idk how to really describe it! However it does it when I push on the gas and accelerate, and it's like it gets louder and faster until it stops then starts again when I decelerate...but not until I slow down almost all the way it's like it starts and stops around the same speeds maybe! But it only does this in drive and reverse...when I put it in neutral it stops so like when I had to drive it to my dad's for him to look at it when I would come to a stop I would just drop it down in neutral so it wouldn't make the noise, but of course when I put it back in drive it starts again...my dad is pretty good with cars and he said he was stumped.. and that he had never heard a car make this noise before so he had a couple of his friends listen to it, and they said it was the torque converter,
My car has an automatic transmission.

What Oil Viscosity Should I Use With My Filter?
Oil is the life's blood of every engine. It lubricates the internals of your engine, it cools your engine, and it keeps your engine clean. Oil viscosity (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/why-does-motor-oil-viscosity-matter), or the measurement of an oil's resistance to flow, is a key...

I would have the check engine light inspected (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) by a YourMechanic Technician, They can pull codes off the computer and determine what is malfunctioning.

idling rough warning lights
Hello. I think the car is running rough because the Check Engine Light is on. It is possible that the alternator is not working properly (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-test-your-alternator_2) causing low voltage, which would make the car difficult to run properly. I would...

I have a Shogun 3.2 did. The mut scanner from a friend reveals a fault code 35 and says the engine rpm at 3000 and 330 n/m.
Hi there. The fault code 35 reveals that the O2 sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oxygen-sensor-replacement) bank one (upstream sensor) has picked up an issue with the emission quality of the exhaust. This means that the engine could be lean or rich in fuel...
What does my car randomly stall/cut out at all speeds and idling in park. in my 2006 Chrysler 300
Hello. It sounds like you have had a lot of work done trying to fix this issue. It sounds like you either have a communication wiring issue or an ignition switch that is failing. I usually test the ignition switch...
Will a Ford Econoline 7.3 diesel van/ambulance transmission fit my truck and if so what modifications will I have to make?
I looked up the two applications. The two transmissions are different and, in particular, the transmission control module and PCM and the wiring harness on your 1999 truck are not compatible with the controls on the 1990 transmission. If you...
