Q: A.C. not cooling properly

I took my car to the dealership because the A.C was not cooling properly. They recommended replacing the compressor and o-ring. I thought that was unusual to have the parts mentioned seperate. Can I just have the o-ring replaced first to see it that works before I spend $800 for both?

My car has 85000 miles.
