Q: 98 VW Jetta manual transmission clutch noises

asked by on October 31, 2017

About 2 weeks ago, started hearing a rough grinding from beneath the car when depressing the clutch pedal. Carried on for the past 2 weeks varying in severity up until 2 days ago when it turned from grinding into screeching. It's now constant in volume, but only when engaging and releasing the clutch, both stationary and in motion. It's almost loud enough to wake the dead, lol. My question is, on a limited budget, is there any way I could self diagnose the source of the problem? I'm not a mechanic per say, but I've done a lot of my own work over the years due to budgetary restraints.

My car has 130000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Excessive fuel pressure (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/fuel-rail-sensor-faulty-or-fuel-pressure-too-high-by-dee) won't "ruin an injector", although it will certainly leak and cause high fuel consumption, as well as a rough idle and rough running. Check for problem codes,...
