Q: 2000 durango engine light on starys but them shut off when switched into gear. It also over heats

2000 durango over heats since I bought it from a guy. Well I have changed my water pump my thermostat and thermostat sencer fan belt and battery and top radiator hose and cap . Well today it over heated ran out of gas and my truck shut off completely when I try to turn it on it trys to start but doesn't I press on the gas while starting it and it starts up like nothing but when I change my gear to drive it shuts off and now I have a check engine light on . I put the blue devil head gasket sealant in it and did every step and then let it sit. I got it turned on 2 times and drove it in and out of my parking spot then I shut it off and it didn't want to start again it makes the sound like it wants to but dose not and the engine shakes the whole truck. I checked my gas and I need gas but other then that what could it be please help
