Q: 04 aviator started over heating 2 months after thermostat replaced and within seconds damaged radiator need to know possible cause
04 aviator was overheating every time it was driven more than a mile but not while idling. Replaced the thermostat and purged the system of air and it drove amazing for 2 months. Then all at once overheated rapidly and damaged the radiator, two small holes on the top front of it. I would greatly appreciate of someone could suggest possible causes. I am about to buy a new radiator and water pump but if it's a much bigger issue I wouldn't want to waste the money. I am a medic in Oklahoma and have a ridiculous schedule so going to a regular mechanic to have it checked isnt an easy thing to do.
