Q: '98 Dakota 2wd-rear..with Air. Oil leaking in back of engine and above tranny. Leak is right around d-cap and a sensor post.

asked by on June 23, 2017

I'm trying to isolate an oil leak. '98 Dakota V6 3.9L (2wd-rear) with A.C. oil is leaking from behind engine, above tranny. Looking at the engine by standing in the front, the D-cap is somewhat to the right, there is a sensor post in the middle and the leak is somewhat to the left of that. Is this a rear seal leak?

I took my truck to get a oil change and within a week or two my car started leaking oil to the point i lost all the oil.
There are a few things that will cause an engine to lose oil (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oil-level-is-low-inspection). A loose drain plug, leaking valve cover gaskets, and a leaking oil pan are a few causes for the oil to leak externally. Internally, there could...
