What is the Mirror Control Switch all about?

Sometimes the issue is not a broken mirror itself, but that the mirror does not move. The mirror control switch is an electrical mechanism that adjusts the mirror. It can stop working and may need replacing.

Keep in mind:

  • If your mirror doesn’t move it could be that the mirror itself is broken, not the switch.
  • Physical damage to your mirror will often keep it from moving, even if the switch is still functional.

How it's done:

  • Test the fuses.
  • Test operation of switch.
  • Replace the switch if found faulty.
  • Check operation of the mirror(s) in all directions.

Our recommendation:

There’s no way to preempt a faulty mirror switch. When you notice that your mirrors no longer move when you try to adjust them, schedule an inspection.

What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Mirror Control Switch?

  • Mirror does not move

How important is this service?

Mirror switches are designed to make driving safer. When different drivers get in a car, they can use the mirror switch to adjust their side view mirrors so that they have the best view of their surroundings and their blind spots. When the mirror control switch fails, there’s no way to adjust the mirror, and your mirror will not be able to move into the correct placement for safe driving.

Kia Optima L4-2.4L - Oil Change - Mountain View, California
Trung called 20 minutes before appointment to let me know he would be arriving in 10 minutes which I thought was great. When he arrived he appeared very professional and explained to me all the services that would be performed on my vehicle. So I left him the keyes, went back into my office and 45 minutes later he called to let me know my vehicle was done. When I came out he showed me that my air filter was extremely dirty and offered to run to the parts store and pick one up and it would only cost me the $23.00 additional for the filter. I absolutely thought this was tremendous service. Trung went far beyond any expectations I had for a mobile mechanic service and I will surely be recommending Trung and Yourmechanic to all my friends and family. Thank you Trung for the great service and thank you Yourmechanic!

Kia Optima L4-2.4L - Oil Change - Tacoma, Washington
This was my first time using YourMechanic so I wasn't sure what to expect. Noe showed up early like a true professional. He gave me a time estimate of an hour to hour and half - and ended up finishing in less than an hour! Also, the actual total was considerably less than the initial quote. He exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend Noe to anyone who wants above and beyond service.
